Types of spirits:
An alcoholic beverage distilled using molasses or sugar cane.
An alcoholic spirit made from distilled rye, wheat, or potatoes.
A distilled spirit with a liquor base. Liquors are usually sweet as they are made with sugar and a variety of fruits, herbs and spices which creates flavours that vary greatly by the type of liqueur and particular brand.
An alcoholic beverage made by distilling rye or other grain spirits and adding juniper berries or aromatics such as anise, caraway seeds, or angelica root for flavoring.
Whisky (Scottish or English) or Whiskey (Irish or America) is made from fermented grains which could include various combinations of barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat and corn. Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the only type of whisky that is made exclusively from barley. All other whiskies contain a blend.

Canadian Whisky originates in Canada and most are produced by blending rye and other whiskies with a relatively neutral spirit. Canadian Whisky is characterized by a spicy, bitter-sweet flavour which becomes smoother through the barrel aging process.

Produced in Ireland, Irish Whiskey is aged in wooden casks for at least three years. Nearly all Irish Whiskies are blends and in Ireland coal is used instead of peat.

Produced in the United States from a fermented mash of cerealgrains.

A type of American Whiskey that is made of at least 51% corn. Bourbon Whiskey is aged for a minimum of four years in new charred white oak barrels. Unlike with other whiskies, these barrels are only used once in the production of straight or blended American Whiskey.

Single Malt Scotch
Malt whisky made from a single distillery.
Try: Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch
Usually a blend of malt and single malt whiskies, often from several distilleries. Blended whiskies are usually more consistent and more affordable.
