Many people associate messages such as
Don't Drink and Drive and activities such as refusing a sale to the subject
of responsible drinking. However, NLC's commitment to responsible drinking
goes much further. We have: established minimum pricing for alcoholic beverages
sold in licensed establishments, carry some low alcohol beer and wine choices
in NLC stores and follow the motto that "Moderation – The Smart Choice."
In promoting responsible drinking, NLC has also looked at the pairing of
food and drink choices. If a person is offered food choices along with alcoholic
beverages, it could slow down or reduce their consumption of drink. Once
again, moderation is key. Various pairings of food and drink products have
been made in NLC's new magazine Occasions
– NLC’s Celebration of Food and Drink, which features local restaurants and recipes in every issue.
Many of our provincial advertising activities are also designed to promote
responsible drinking. The messages in these advertisements are often specific
to events and activities associated with the time of the year such as Don't
Drink and Snowmobile in the winter and Don't Drink and Boat in the summer.
