Over the years, the people of Newfoundland and Labrador have relied on the liquor authority of the day to ensure that alcoholic beverages are sold in a responsible manner. When the Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation was established in 1973, this responsibility was taken very seriously and has since been expanded to include many diverse activities and programs.
25 Second Ad Challenge
Congratulations to students & staff of Ecole des Grands-Vents, St. John’s and Lester Pearson Memorial High, Wesleyville, Winners of the Radio and Television 25 Second Ad Challenge.
Winning ads have been professionally produced and are currently airing on NTV and OZ FM. Each winning school has also been provided with a new computer system from NLC.
Accidents are events that we can not prevent and which usually have unfortunate outcomes. RCMP Assistant Commissioner Gerry Lynch says that his colleagues do not refer to tragedies caused by drinking
and driving as accidents because they can always be prevented. Students at Ecole Des Grands-Vents and Lester Pearson Memorial High demonstrate this same understanding.
In the 25 Second Radio and Television Advertisements is a call to action for Newfoundlanders of all ages…..”Life is not a remote. You cannot fast foreward or rewind. You have to know how to insist.” These young individuals have demonstrated the wisdom that to fully enjoy life we must live in the moment, take responsibility for our actions and speak up to protect ourselves as well as those around us. Standing up to peer pressure and difficult situations requires using your strength, sense and smarts to be in control.
NLC Vice President, Corporate Services, Lloyd Penny says “we fully endorse the message that the RCMP spoke of: Never Drink and Drive, and Never Ride with a Driver who has been Drinking.”
Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) thank you for your well thought message and are very proud to play a part in relaying it to the public of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Check 25
The NLC is committed to being a socially responsible corporate citizen and fulfilling its legal obligations. Check 25 is an identification program used to prevent the sale/serving of alcohol to minors and ensures that all customers entering our retail stores that appear to be under 25 years of age are challenged for identification. This program will be implemented in NLC Corporate stores, Liquor Express stores and we welcome all Licensees and Brewer’s Agents in the province to join with us in ensuring that only customers of legal age make purchases.
The NLC has been asking individuals for ID for years and we will continue to challenge and document refusals as it helps create awareness with our customers and that our team at retail is diligent in this area.
