Technical Designer Infrastructure

Reporting to the IT Manager, Technical Services, this position is responsible for the following:

  • Develops proposed architectures in keeping with corporate objectives, standards, strategies, and goals;
  • Produces and maintains architectural documentation and diagrams;
  • Defines IT policies, procedures and standards to be implemented and followed for enterprise solutions;
  • Provides new product ideas - innovations, recommendations on new and emerging technologies, existing infrastructure, technology prototypes, and process improvements;
  • Produces detailed designs for integrations of new systems within existing infrastructure;
  • Works with systems and DBAs to implement server and storage architectures using industry best practices;
  • Manages datacenter infrastructure, including storage and servers;
  • Manages all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches and UPSs;
  • Performs server and security audits;
  • Designs system backups and recovery solutions.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary Diploma in Computer Studies from an accredited technical college;
  • Completion of a Microsoft Certification program in Windows Server;
  • Cisco certification would be considered an asset;
  • Five to sever (5-7)) years IT/technical design experience;
  • Experience with system integration, system planning, security and software management best practices;
  • Experience and knowledge of standard business solutions, software, hardware, and database systems;
  • Experience with development of application, data and infrastructure architecture deliverables;
  • In-depth understanding of storage architecture design techniques, theories, principles and practices;
  • Hands on experience with Storage Area Networks and troubleshooting
  • Experience with backup and restore technologies;
  • Experience designing enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, VMs, virtual networks, etc.;
  • Working knowledge of VoIP/IP Telephony systems, software and hardware;
  • Strong knowledge of server load balancing and clustering
  • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory/Global Catalogue;
  • Strong knowledge of VMWARE and Virtual technologies;
  • Experience in Microsoft Exchange 2013 / Office365;
  • Experience and knowledge of Cloud services and technologies;
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and techniques;
  • Knowledge of data center/server room security (incl. HVAC, environmental alarms, access restrictions);
  • Familiarity working in a SQL data environment;
  • Knowledge of security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus and intrusion detection systems;
  • Experience administering and implementing Citrix would be considered an asset;
  • Thorough understanding of software licensing and compliance;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and deadline-driven environment;
  • Proven analytical, creative problem solving and collaborative decision making abilities
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, customer service and teambuilding skills;
  • Strong Written and oral communication skills;
  • Project Management skills is a definite asset.

Salary: CG 42: $72,657.00 - $85,624.50 annually
